A thriving labour market benefits everyone by creating better jobs, raising living standards, and supporting economic growth. Romania has made progress in increasing employment, but many people still face barriers to finding and keeping good-quality jobs. An ageing population, emigration, regional inequalities, skills gaps, and informal work continue to hold back the country's potential, especially for young people, women, people with disabilities, and those living in rural areas. Expanding access to work, investing in skills and job matching, improving childcare and care services, encouraging flexible work, and reducing informal employment would help more people participate in the labour market and support stronger, more inclusive growth.

Employment has risen, yet tackling structural barriers will be key to sustaining growth and prosperity
