Fifth Annual Edition of the Crossing Borders Visiting Program and Doctoral Lecture Series on Cross-Border Labor Mobility

The 2024-25 Lecture Series features invitations to nine globally renowned migration scholars

This year marks the first collaboration between LISER-CB, the University of Luxembourg, and FNR (via the ACROSS Doctoral Training Unit and RESCOM).

For the first time, the doctoral lecture series will be held in a hybrid format, and you can register through the University of Luxembourg's event website.

Our guest speakers will contribute to the ‘Crossing Borders at a Glance’ policy brief series, offering insights and evidence-based policy recommendations on key issues.



Lecture 1: September 19th, 2024
The 1st lecture “Seasonal Poverty, Seasonal Migration, and Remittances” will be given by Mushfiq Mobarak from Yale School of Management. It will take place on Thursday 19 September from 13.00 to 17.00 in room D17 and online via Webex.

A lunch will be served at 12.00 upon invitation only (LISER/UNI participants attending onsite are automatically enrolled).

About the lecture series: 

  • The program comprises a series of monthly lectures delving into current issues surrounding the determinants of international migration and commuting flows, as well as their consequences for migrants/commuters, the communities left behind, and non-movers in receiving and sending countries.
  • The 2024-25 Lecture Series features invitations to 9 migration scholars renowned globally for their prolific research contributions, frequent publications in prestigious academic journals, and ability to offer cutting-edge analyses of existing methodologies and academic findings in their field of expertise.
  • The lecture series is a freely accessible event that is extensively promoted by the organizers, UL and LISER, both internally and within their networks of Ph.D. students, postdocs, researchers, and research-related staff.
  • Several activities will be organized to enhance interactions among researchers and with the guest speakers.
