The University-Science Model, Research Collaborations & Worldwide Scientization
Never has the world been as rich in scientific knowledge as it is today. But what are its main sources? The book Global Mega-Science (Stanford University Press, 2024) examines the origins of unprecedented growth of knowledge production in all world regions. At the heart of this phenomenon is the unparalleled cultural success of universities and their connection to science: the university-science model. The current age of global mega-science was built upon the symbiotic relationship between the institutions of higher education and science. Especially the globe-spanning research collaborations among networked university-based scientists have led to unprecedented discoveries. These networks and relationships—their conditions and constraints—are key for scholars and citizens to understand the future sustainability of science
