LISER is a fundamental partner of the Greater Caribbean Climate Mobility Initiative.

It is a joint undertaking coordinated by the Global Centre for Climate Mobility, operated through UNOPS, and the Association of Caribbean States, bringing together 25 countries, amongst them numerous Small Island Developing States, whose people are most at risk from the impacts of sea level rise and climate related events.

The evidence-based initiative is to undertake research and fieldwork, aiming to support the development of an agenda for action and mobility model, around which to forge regional political momentum, a common policy agenda and resource mobilisation, necessary for locally anchored solutions to address climate mobility.

In the context of this project, the leader of the consortium, Columbia University (NY, USA), prepares a comprehensive analysis of climate risks, and its consequences for regional and global mobility of people.

LISER, having signed a collaboration agreement with the UN and Columbia University, will contribute directly to this analysis. Our research team is responsible for delivering quantitative projections of climate-induced migration caused by climatic shocks over the next decades. Michal Burzynski acts as a key LISER contributor who supports the project with structural modelling of climate-driven migration.
